We came to the conclusion that the entire women of the mission of Uganda needed a get away weekend of just fun. And what better place to crash at than one of us who lives in the far west of Uganda, in a very mild/cool climate area, and who's 6 months pregnant? One of our main activities was led by Bobbi, an experienced art teacher: making Batiks! The method we used this time was chosing our picture from blackline drawings, getting it onto the cloth, and the painting hot wax onto the cloth to prevent the paint from being absorbed in those places.
Here you see several of us hard at work. Who have time for creativity in the middle of the busy lives of missionary women? Few of us.
Here are my two masterpieces. Of course, I have to do 2, right? There's no question as to whether or not that's even remotely a question. Nor is the fact that even while I was away, my heart was with my girls back home. Anybody know from pictures taken...2 years ago now...which animal is for which girl? (each of them picked out their favorite African stuffed animal at the time.)
Contentment in the here and now, sometimes that's a challenge for all of us, eh?
